Five Kidnapped! Drabbles (100 Words Each)

ONE
River sits near Rodney a lot, saying she likes hearing his brain. It freaks John out (a lot), but Rodney seems to take it all in stride.
Jeannie mostly avoids her, and Granger gives pity and careful, comforting gestures. But Rodney mutters distracting theorems and quizzes and pontifications on his own intelligence.
He doesn’t seem to mind that River is a psychic, which isn’t terribly surprising, if John really thinks about it: Rodney wants to share his genius with everyone.
(John doesn’t know it, but since meeting River, Rodney has had what-if nightmares about the CIA for weeks on end.)

TWO
Jeannie is going to marry John when she grows up.
When she tells Meredith, he chokes on the gruel The Creepers fed them, and moans “Why? Why? For the love of God, what did I do to deserve this?”
Later, when it is lunchtime, Jeanne tells him that it’s because John tells the best stories. Meredith scoffs that stories are silly.
When it is dinner and Jeannie tells him that John plays the games she wants(like Pretty Pretty Princess), Meredith snorts.
When, at bedtime, Jeannie tells him that John is never too busy, Mer frowns and gives her a hug.

THREE
Hermione Granger had made a point to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the group. After the first day, Hermione knew:
John had the most experience with The Creepers and the layout, and his intelligence was valuable. (Like Harry had been.)
Rodney scavenged junk to make useful things. (Filling her old role, but with technology.)
Jeannie kept them human. (Her parents probably missed her.)
River spoke strange truths. (Not prophecy.)
“Leaders have to let go,” River said, “and hold on to new things.”
By the second week, Hermione hasn’t forgotten her old life. But she tries not to remember.
~~~~~
FOUR
Sometimes Rodney thinks this is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.
He’s learned more in the past few weeks than he’s ever hoped to before. He has challenging technology at his fingertips and a brain beside him that throws out insightful comments that tease his mind and twist his theories into understanding. He’s in space, and he might not be free here but it’s not like he ever really was at home, with the CIA and his parents watching every move he made.
He feels horribly guilty about liking this because his friends are unhappy.
(He has friends.)
FIVE
The timelines twisted and turned and led River somewhere else. The Creepers did the twisting, did it with their ship. They took River from the place Simon would have taken her from.
She goes now where no River has gone before, because there was an Intervention.
But she is not scared.
No one looks at her brain. And when she looks (the leaping-child brain, the sparking-ideas brain, the questing-spaces brain, and the bubbling-witchy-brain) she is comforted.
The Creepers’ dark minds don’t frighten her. They are weak and she has friends.
The Creepers need their ship, and she is a River.
