“Now as I was saying, we ought to set up a large banner.  After all, it’s not everyday Stars Hollow welcomes new residents.  A good first impression is the key to attracting potential Stars Hollow citizens.”

“And you believe a banner will accomplish this task?” Noah responded, momentarily glancing up from the stationery shelves he had been busy stocking.

“Well… yes.  And as town mayor I believe it is my duty to ensure we provide our visitors with the best welcome possible.”

“Assistant Mayor.”

Taylor’s face hardened slightly at Noah’s correction. “Well… who keeps records of these things anyway?  I’d say imperatively speaking that our, ah, status is on approximately the same level.”

Noah retreated to the storeroom, returning a moment later with another large box under his arm.

“I’d say one is mayor and one is not.”

Noah dropped the box to the ground and flipped open the flaps, bending down to place the fresh paper onto the bottom shelves.

“Very well,” Taylor sighed dramatically, “As the town’s Assistant Mayor, I believe you should consider the welcoming banner.”

Noah pondered a moment, knowing that every second he delayed his answer was another second he would be annoying Taylor.

“Perhaps,” he answered simply.

“Oh, Noah, Taylor, Darlings!” a lady’s deep voice sounded behind them. “Did I hear you mention a new arrival in town?”

“Yes you heard correctly, Miss Patty.  The Petrelli’s should be arriving late this afternoon.  I do hope they will find their way into town.  Perhaps a large banner may help to point them in the right direction,” Taylor replied, clearly directing the last sentence towards Noah.

“So, I’m sorry, you didn’t mention. Is there a Mr Petrelli?”

“I’m afraid it will just be Mrs Petrelli and her three sons,” Noah answered as he stocked the last pile of paper.

Miss Patty threw her hand to her chest in a dramatic manner.  “Three young men? Now that’s much better,” she said smiling dazedly.

“I’m going to take my break, don’t forget to clear up these boxes,” Noah ordered with amusement as he received an exasperated groan from Taylor.  “Happy cleaning,” he added for good measures.

“Three Mr Petrelli’s! You just wait until Babbette hears about this!” Miss Patty’s voice trailed off, as she left ‘Stars Hollow Paper and Co’ with a brilliant grin only the juiciest town gossip could deliver.

Car engines and buses were bustling the streets of New York below him.  It was a long way down, he knew that much.  But somehow he was safe standing upon the steady structure of the building, feeling the breeze lightly touch his face and brush through his hair.  The dull light of the sun that conserved itself behind the late afternoon clouds captured his eyes and gave him hope.  And he knew he wouldn’t fall.  If he could just-

Peter’s elbow slipped where it had steadied his sleeping head against the car window.  He sat upright, trying to refocus his weary eyes to the scenery passing by him.  Peter heard a tortured moan from beside him, and looking out past his brother he knew exactly why.  As their car slowly turned the corner, he saw in bright, gleaming letters ‘Welcome New Folk to the Wonderful Town of Stars Hollow’ and standing below was a strange and skinny looking man waving and yelling welcomes at them.

“Hey Jess”, Peter softly nudged Jess; who was staring vacantly out of his window, “Do you reckon he stands there all day?”

“I doubt any of these morons have lives, so I’d say it’s a pretty probable bet.”

“Now, Jess, what did I tell you before we came? This is a new town where nobody knows us.  I do not wish you to hold the same reputation you did in New York.  This family has gone through more than enough trouble in the last few days, we do not need any more,” his mother said sternly.

“Whatever.  I don’t think I would even need my powers to shake this town up,” he said, staring out at the happy strolling couples, and the kids playing joyfully around the town square.  Peter joined his brother’s stares, knowing that the feeling of dread that was quickly setting in would be more than doubled in his brother’s eyes.

“Jess, do you remember what we talked about before we left?” His mother asked seriously, as she began to slow the car to a stop outside of an old hardware shop.

“Please keep driving,” Jess groaned, closing his eyes and throwing his head back.

“Jess, did you even listen to what I said this morning?”

“We’re you yelling at the time?  I tend not to listen when you’re yelling.  It’s hard on my ears.”

Angela turned in her seat to face Jess, a scolding look on her face.

Jess sighed, “Our abilities are not to be taken lightly, they are veerry dangerous, stay in school, don’t do drugs, I believe I’m familiar with the speech.”

“Sometimes I just don’t know what to do with you,” Angela sighed.

And stepping out of the car, they began towards ‘William’s Hardware’.

Claire pulled her bag nervously around her shoulder, staring at the door in front of her.  Now that she was here, she wished she would have called.  After all, what would she say to her aunt she hadn’t seen in almost seven years?  ‘Hi Aunt Lorelai, it’s me, your niece.  Well, actually, I’m not your real niece; because I just found out I was adopted.  Oh, yeah and about that, my parents lied to me for sixteen years, so I’m kind of mad at them.  I was hoping I could just crash here for a few days, or weeks… or months?”

Claire sighed to herself, as if finding out that you can go through a wood chipper and come out the other end without a mark on you wasn’t enough, now she had to find out that the family that she had been living with for sixteen years wasn’t even her real family, and that her real family was living somewhere in Philadelphia. The truth was Claire’s life was only just beginning. Taking a deep breath, Claire knocked on the door.
