Summary: Victorian London is terrified by a series of mysterious, brutal murders and unsolved kidnappings, hotly investigated by the renowned detective Angel; can he solve the mystery before those responsible succeed in their nefarious plots to birth the ultimate creature of power? Or will he be defeated by opponents with powers that are a match and more for his own? At the same time, amidst the ever-shifting lines between good and evil, can confirmed rake, thief, and gambler Remy LeBeau manage to evade the entrapping web of his own criminal associations and defeat the Sherlockian mind of the vampire-turned-hero? "A trap," he hissed to himself. Sinister had baited him, the entire way. Every step he'd taken Sinister had moved him in. Every step was just one more drawing Sinister closer to Rogue, ever since he'd been ordered to kill Mr. Chase. And now, Sinister would no doubt be prepared for him to return to the asylum. But the thought of Rogue in Sinister's grasp turned his stomach cold. He would be waiting, but Remy had waltzed into traps before. Rogue would not stay in that asylum long.
Remy stalked out of his bedchambers and started down the stairs, moving quickly with his renewed determination. Halfway down the stairs, Remy stopped, and his head cocked, his face puzzled. Angel stepped out of a room behind him, at the top of the stairs, a confining space. "You're not the only one who can move silently, LeBeau." Xander ran up to the foot of the stairs, a revolver in each hand pointed up the stairs to Remy, his face sweaty. Angel had moved fast when he saw the exhausted horse in front of the house.
Cordelia and Willow moved out from the rooms to the side of the hallway below the staircase, Cordelia with another pistol in hand, and Willow unarmed, but with resolve face firmly in place. "Can you dodge bullets from more than one direction at the same time?" Cordelia's voice was sweetly poisonous. "I think not. Now, what have you done with my friend?"
