I was a second away from striking, digging my fangs deep into his scruffy neck (as his worn eyes watched with horror), when I hesitated, catching those beautiful eyes watching me.
(ones that had seen as much horror as me, loved ones buried deep down)
Besides if I left one more dead body (never going for the mothers and fathers with their adorable children) out in the open like this it wouldn’t be long before I was chased from this new home.
(where I lead away those horrible men away from beating their pretty wives down and gave them ugly deaths)
“Why?”
He watched me like the caged lion he knew I was, a demon with an angelic face hiding the monster (that would come out to eat up all those stupid townies in the darkness), seeing me as something strange.
(even monsters should get to choose who they have for dinner, and I did not want to eat this father)
I pulled the photo that had been tucked into his breast pocket, keeping those he had left close to his heart, of two smiling little boys (reminding me of my child ripped from my arms) who needed their father.
“They’re very cute, almost as much as their father.”
After I placed the photo back where it belonged, I still had a photo of my long lost family on my person (until I had the sweet taste of revenge to quiet me), I turned my back and expected my head to roll.
(even though I would have won taking out the light in those beautiful eyes of his)
Instead he stared after me in shock, his hand wrapped around that photo like he had just been given a second chance, and I couldn’t help but smile back at him.
