“It isn’t Christmas, Castiel, without any snow.”
Seeing the tears in her eyes, and how her pout came out right away the moment we appeared and there was no white frozen water to welcome her, stirred something in me that I’d believed was not there at all.
(this strange creature, not a little bit human, always seemed to do that to me)
“The date is still December 25, Miss Tam, despite the lack of the white stuff.”
The year before that thing humans call ‘snow’ had been overwhelming covering every inch of every surface, and it had taken a lot not speak of my dislike for it, and the smile on her face had been larger than life.
(seeing that smile warmed my cold heart and I finally gave her a smile back)
“It’s snow, Cassie, not stuff, and I love it.”
Now the tears were flowing freely, when I was in heaven no one cared to tell me about women’s tears and the power they hold over all creatures, and I couldn’t bear to see her filled with so much sadness.
“Do you wish to go back to Simon, Miss Tam, away from the snowless earth?”
I regretted bringing up the ship, her home that was cold metal and the place I was forced to let her stay, hoping that she wouldn’t choose to leave me.
(in the years I’ve spent with this one girl from the future I’ve never wanted something or someone as much as her)
“No! Simon is busy being in his honeymoon stage and they never stop kissing, it’s almost as horrible as the whole Sam and Ruby debacle. I just want snow, that’s all I want.”
Her hold on my fingertips increased with her sobs, while I was trying to get rid of as many tears as I could, burying her face in my coat like the small child the world saw her as.
“Then snow you shall have, River.”
With a snap of my fingers, breaking all the rules in the guidebook for her and not giving a damn as I did it, that white snow that always brings a smile out of her came floating down.
“Are you happy now?”
Without hesitating she jumped into my open arms, over the years I’ve lost count of the numerous hugs she’s given me, and because of all my practicing I was able to hug her tightly.
(always facing a few seconds where I did not wish to ever let her go)
“Positively, Cassie, it is the most wonderful thing anyone has ever done for me, and that includes a whole lot of life saving.”
I didn’t try to stop her when she placed a tiny kiss on my lips, her tiny body held stable in my arms, and I dared heaven and hell to try and keep me from kissing her right back.
