“Will you stand by me when no one else wants to, Miss. Sawyer?”
Every part of me wanted to run for the hill, head the other way of this man who was the villain of the story, but the little guy growing inside me made me stay.
(he was all that was left of the love we once shared)
“I wish I could say no, after everything you did to me, but I can’t help but love you, Lex. So yes, I’ll be here for you through it all.”
He rested his warm hands on my stomach; finally getting the child that he once pretended was coming, filling every part of me with even more dread then before.
“I want him to have everything I never did, love and understanding, Peyton. And I will not let myself become my father, you know that.”
“I want to believe you, Lex, but all I can do is see what happens next.”
“I won’t betray you or him, never.”
Even as he assured me, and took me into his arms like he’s done many times before, of the truth in his words I regretted it.
(and it was a regret that he would make me regret even more)
