“Don't you dare leave me, Dean Winchester.”
(little Johnny-boy is kicking up a hell of storm, screaming for his daddy to stay)
My hands were dying to slam that horrible door shut, where he could take a few steps and be away from me forever, and pull him back in.
“Babe, I have to go. I'll be making a deal so you and the kid are kept save when I'm gone.”
Those hands of his, that hold a ring made of promises and are warm to the touch, are shaking as they hold on to the door knob.
(each step he takes it toward giving up, losing the fight we're been in for so damn long)
“I don't care about any damn deals, he doesn't need angels protecting him if he has his father. And that's something every child needs, I won't let him grow up without you.”
Those pesky tears (the kind I usually end up burning away with my lava hot temper), thanks to the little guy I've been leaking weakness all over the place, came flooding out before I could stop them.
“Oh, babe, please don't.”
Even his eyes are brimming over, those eyes that can shed one tear and turn your heart to dust, as one hand is reached out toward me and the other on the door.
And I get a front row seat as he tries to make the choice between his family, which hasn't even got a real start, and saving this burning world.
Yet those surrounding him still believe that he's giving up, choosing to give himself away,
“You promised me, Winchester. And I expect you to keep your word, you have to stay.”
('I'd never leave you or the kid, never, I promise you that')
It didn't take me long to figure out what his decision is going to be, the water on our cheeks could build a freaking lake, but as he starts to open that door I was in a state of shock.
(it was a black hole about to suck away any happiness we could have had, another family broken)
“But I can't, Lo. At least you'll be safe, tell him that died for you and this whole goddamn fucked world.”
That hand lingered over my stomach, as if saying his own goodbye to the baby boy that would never get to meet his superman (only hear tales from Uncle Sammy and Mommy), then he was taken away from us for the last time.
“You promised.”
(it was the first time he ever broke his word, broke my heart, and the last)
