It's becoming a trend now (happening over and over again like clock work) every ten or sometimes even less, years another one of them, snarky goddesses with pens born in their hands, come striding into my life.
(and like the others I know that it will either end in death, of old age or blood loss, for her but never for me. I can only hope)
And but of course it started with Beth (the first, the one and only) and maybe it will end with the one before me, another reporter with the same desire in her eyes that keeps growing and growing each day.
Each one of them (that end up looking past the monster part that might be the downfall of them and those they love) have at least some part of her, the one that will be never forgotten, in them.
In the writing that comes out of Lois like a spring that only dries up on special occasions, and that little smile that reaches her eyes and all the rest of her.
But instead of blond locks (that I will forever be haunted by in my day dreams, the only ones I can have) I take a fist full of brown as our lips met, not for the first or the last time, well not yet.
And every word that comes from her lips (the ones that find mine a match, that used to kiss the hero and now kiss the villain) besides the ones that are whispered 'I love you, my monster' are filled to the brim with sarcasm and so much courage that it will never fade away.
“Josef told you about Beth didn't he? (the son of a bitch, yet still my best buddy, has been trying to get Lois to himself for months now, to no avail)”
Josef, best friend (or so I think) is always ready to help, to fight for me and her both, it was the same for all the rest of them.
But still he's even more ready to laugh at all the mistakes I've been making, the same ones all over and over.
He watches me with amusement in his eyes (now a days since the business world hurled their pitch forks and torches at him, always stay white) but unlike me he doesn't say one word about this big game just says 'it's your second funeral, Mick, brother.' and smiles at the girls that hold a special kind of hate for him.
('Your kind of girl loves the good guy and hate the bad guy which I seem to always be, Mick, my kind of girl likes a little bit of both. And Lois is that. Don't blame me if she dumps you for me, I am both incredibly handsome and one bad-ass vampire. No hard feelings')
“Oh yes, I think he told me the whole story of the epic romance between Beth and Mick and it only took him about three hours (my hand was wishing for a stake to end this all). Then the other twenty or so Beth wannabes took about three minutes to explain (them being vampire hoes and all).”
“And your not mad?”
Having know her for months (for her filled with strange things, which from her old life wasn't much of a change) now, longer then all the rest of them, who all seemed to say and do all the very same things, I should have been covering my heart and head in case their was a stake hidden under her suit.
(knowing Lois Lane, she doesn't have to have super-powers or be a vampire to be bad-ass, she just is)
“Not in the least, because Mick, in no way am I like Beth or all those other girls. And your no way like Clark Kent or any of my other exes (which sadly is many). I'm Lois Lane, expert reporter (and not at a tabloid!) and your Mick St. John investigator with some supernatural powers on his side. Got that?”
Instead of waiting for an answer she did the very thing, besides being alone with Josef or going off on her little side investigations, I advised against and that thing was a kiss that I had been waiting for without knowing it.
“Oh wow, look I'm not dead! Well, it's not if I was going to take your no kissing rule seriously and so lets just go and break that rule once again.”
And did I try and stop her? Hell no.
