Fic: How Deathly Hollows Should End
"It's over," Harry said, clutching Hermione to his chest. "Voldemort is... no more."
And it was true. Although Hogwarts lay in ruins and the grounds were littered with the bodies of Death Eaters and his friends, it was finally over. Voldemort lay still, his ghastly face blank and his eyes shut tightly. Blood poured like liquid marble from where Gryffindor's sword had impaled him. That blood couldn't wash away all the evil done by the Dark Lord, but it was start.
"It's all over," Harry said again, halfway not believing it himself.
Then Voldemort's eyes shot open. With a brief flash of light, Voldemort twitched and spasmed, like a bug impaled on a pin. More flashes followed and Harry caught a brief impression of Voldemort folding in on himself as Hermione screamed. When the brightness faded, Voldemort was standing there, whole and healthy... only it wasn't Voldemort. His face was different, restored perhaps? But no. Harry didn't recognize a trace of Tom Riddle in Voldemort's new form. His eyes were blue, his nose was aquiline, and his hair hung down to his subtly pointed ears.
"What does it take to kill you, mister?" Harry asked as he drew his wand.
"Mister?" Voldemort cackled. "No. Doctor. Doctor You-Know-Who!"
