I see him, him who shares a face with a serial killer and friend, but he does not see me.
“I’m Auggie, it’s a pleasure to meet you Abby.”
Instead of that sick smile, one that broke through the cracks in the end, a charming one replaces it.
And those eyes, that once burned holes in my skin (watching every move I made), now cannot stare even if they wanted to.
“It’s nice to meet you too, Auggie.”
I smile, one that is awkward and filled with fear, even though he cannot see it.
His hand reaches out in friendship, and in my mind I see blood on it and feel it on my skin, and I’m able to bring myself to take it.
(and get a brain full of memories trying to break me down, each dripping in so much damn blood)
“Soft hands, nice voice, and the way that boy of yours, Jimmy, talked about you I’m quite certain that you are lovely.”
I hope he does not notice when I take my hand away so quickly, hoping the effect of his touch does not last or my eyes will never shut for days, and so grateful that he cannot see the fear in my eyes.
(or the blush that creeping out as he tries to charm his way in my heart just like someone else did years ago)
A rush of relief floods over me as Jimmy comes back, running for the hills just like I was dying to do (away from the man of my nightmares), and I hold on to his hands for dear life.
“I have to go; we have a little one waiting on us, thanks for the drink, Auggie.”
(thanks for shaking up our normal lives and bringing back those old fears)
“Maybe we’ll see each other soon, Abby; you never know what’s coming next.”
