FIC - Duplicity, Chapter Three, Volume V (Xmen/BtVS, Adult, Multiple Pairings)
Title: Duplicity: Chapter Three, Volume Five
Authors:
vikingprincess and
blndswdsmn
Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer/X-Men
Main Characters: Angel, Cordelia, Gambit, Rogue, Willow, Xander
Additional Characters: multiple cameos from both fandoms
Disclaimers: Not ours. There would be no Season 6 or XIII if they were.
Rating: Adults Only (if you are under eighteen, do not read! LJ-cuts provided for your protection!)
Warnings: Violence, Graphic Sex, Strong Language Kidnapping, Murder, Scientific Torture
Archiving: Please do not archive, copy, screen cap, excerpt or otherwise use or save in any way without the express written permission of both authors. Thank you.
Comments: Yes, please!
A/N: No Rogue/Gambit or Angel/Cordelia in this chapter, just some unabashed romantic schmoop! Now, with smut! And a dash of plot. Also, just FYI: so far, there are three chapters posted in this story. However, due to LJ post length limits, Chapter 1 has two parts, Chapter 2 has three parts, and Chapter 3 has five parts. So this makes eight posts, ladies and gents. Halfway there!
Summary: Victorian London is terrified by a series of mysterious, brutal murders and unsolved kidnappings, hotly investigated by the renowned detective Angel; can he solve the mystery before those responsible succeed in their nefarious plots to birth the ultimate creature of power? Or will he be defeated by opponents with powers that are a match and more for his own? At the same time, amidst the ever-shifting lines between good and evil, can confirmed rake, thief, and gambler Remy LeBeau manage to evade the entrapping web of his own criminal associations and defeat the Sherlockian mind of the vampire-turned-hero? Or will the sensual distraction of a beautiful American widow prove his downfall?
All chapters may be found here.
Previously:
"In that case, Mr. Angel, I shall bid you goodnight in return. I am certain we will be able to keep this relationship on a professional level, and once we have found Rogue," she steeled herself to say it, though it hurt in a way she had hardly had any right to expect, "then we need never see one another again."
Angel pounded the roof of the cab again, and the driver began to pull to a stop. "Miss Chase," he said quietly. "Good night." He swung the door open and stepped out. He handed the cab driver the fare and a handsome tip. "Get her home with all due haste," he told the driver. Angel looked inside at Cordelia once more, his hand gripping the door hard. He wanted to say something else, anything that would do away with the thought that after this case she would no longer be in his life. That dark thing in the back of his mind was a faint whisper now, but there still. He lowered his eyes and shut the door, turning away.
Cordelia had waited on tenterhooks for him to say something else. More personal perhaps. She didn't really know what she had expected, but it hardly been that he simply... leave. So easily, as though they had not been passionately entwined, as though they had not each found something worthy of respect in the other. And yet, with the no.
"This is not over," she vowed quietly, as the carriage started once more for Chase Manor.
