Summary: Victorian London is terrified by a series of mysterious, brutal murders and unsolved kidnappings, hotly investigated by the renowned detective Angel; can he solve the mystery before those responsible succeed in their nefarious plots to birth the ultimate creature of power? Or will he be defeated by opponents with powers that are a match and more for his own? At the same time, amidst the ever-shifting lines between good and evil, can confirmed rake, thief, and gambler Remy LeBeau manage to evade the entrapping web of his own criminal associations and defeat the Sherlockian mind of the vampire-turned-hero? Or will the sensual distraction of a beautiful American widow prove his downfall?

Angel sighed, and looked at Cordelia. "Where I go next, Cordelia, is to Scotland Yard. I have no official capacity with the police, and while I may have...contacts, they are presently at home. The information I need lies within Scotland Yard. And I know a...back way. Are you still willing to be so engaged?" He almost thought for a second Xander would be nodding vigourously for Cordelia.
"This is for my friend," she replied, simply and stalwartly.
Angel nodded then, a look of admiration crossing his features. "Yes," he said quietly. He pulled his eyes away from hers and turned to Xander. "Mr. Harris, please see to it Miss Rosenberg makes her way home safely?"
Xander nodded with a grin. "She'll not leave my sight once, sir!"
