Frank waited for Davis for fifteen anxious minutes. He resisted the urge to curl the manila folder in his nervousness. Davis arrived with a poker face. He sat down at the small table and waited for Frank to talk.

"We weren't looking for it," Frank began, like it was a disclaimer. "General Damon doesn't know about it, and I'd prefer you keep it that way. We can't get involved. However, I felt that I could trust you with the information."

"All right," Paul agreed. Frank slid the folder to him. Paul scanned the first sheet and frowned. "I don't understand. Is this a joke? You're handing me a standard reimbursement claim form."

"Look behind it," said Frank, rolling his eyes. Davis saw that there were receipts for the rental of two vans, for plane tickets, and for various hotels and restaurants copied onto other sheets behind the reimbursement form.

"I still don't understand," Davis said.

"Check the dates," Frank ground out, irritated. "The reimbursement was filed two weeks ahead of when the actual expenditures."

"All right, so someone's cheating the government, but who isn't? Get to the punchline, Frank. I blew off a staff meeting for this."

"Check the name of the claimants," Frank insisted. Davis looked at the form again.

"Roger Masters, taking three passengers. Gloria Smith, John Galt...Hal Mayfield. This can't be right, Hal Mayfield is a pseudonym for Harry Maybourne."

"They're in Colorado, and it isn't to go see Pike's Peak. I can tell you that they're somehow involved with two missing children there, and that they will try to gain access to the gate if you don't stop them. We cannot get involved. The minute I leave, this never happened. This can never have happened."

Frank stood up. Davis stared up at him. "What's going on, Frank? This is me, Paul."

Frank nodded wearily and put his hands into his coat pocket. His breath turned white in the air. He squinted and looked away from Davis.

"The man that Maybourne is working with is extremely dangerous. He'll use those children to get to the Stargate, and by the time he does, it will be far too late."

"As hostages? I can assure you that Hammond would never allow them to get access to the Stargate, even -"

Davis stopped when he realized that Frank was shaking his head.

"Worse than hostages, Paul."

"This doesn't make any sense."

"It doesn't need to. Find the children and they're left with nothing."

"What's so special about these children, who are they?"

"It's not who they are, it's what they can do," Frank replied, cryptically. He walked off, leaving Davis holding the file folder.

Davis marched back to the waiting car and called the mountain. He couldn't get General Hammond, Colonel O'Neill, or Major Carter, which was strange. Finally, he was able to play a strange version of phone tag until a lab assistant spotted Daniel walking by his door and flagged him down.

Daniel sounded very confused even though he only said, "Hello?"

"Daniel?" Davis asked. "What's going on, I haven't been able to reach General Hammond."

"Yeah, Paul, we've had a situation," Daniel admitted, sounding weary. Davis could imagine him tugging on his glasses and leaning against the wall. Davis sat up straight and his mouth gaped.

"Son of a bitch," Davis cursed. "Someone's gotten to his grandchildren, haven't they?"

"How'd you know?" Daniel sounded alarmed.

"I didn't," Davis replied, hurriedly. "I'll be there as soon as I can. Tell Hammond to get to a phone. God, we're going to have to lock the place down."

"What do you know, Paul," Daniel demanded.

"When were the girls taken?" Davis asked, urgently.

"They only took Tessa. And it was early this morning," Daniel answered, "What's going on, Paul?"

"Goddamit," Davis cursed, "It's already too late."

"Too late for what? Talk to me."

"Just tell Hammond to stay near a phone. I'll be there as soon as possible. Whatever you do, you cannot let on that anything has happened. The SGC must function as normal. None of this is to be committed to record, and nobody at the Pentagon is to be trusted. I have to go," Davis said and hung up before Daniel could stutter out an objection.
